How Cannabis May Affect Relationships
If you or your partner, or both of you consume cannabis on a regular basis, a few things should be worked out when making BIG relationship decisions.
A study at the University of Buffalo and Houston had participants who were in committed relationships, and who consumed marijuana more than 2 times a week document the intimate parts of their day:
The question they had to ask themselves was: “At any time yesterday, did you have an interaction or meaningful conversation with your partner that involved intimacy, love, caring, or support?”
Participants noticed that intimacy was higher than they thought, and many found that it happened usually after 2 hours after cannabis consumption.
Can Cannabis Help With Intimacy?
This is highly speculative at this point, and not enough research has been conducted to give you the black and white answers to this.
What we can share is that when consuming cannabis, many people feel more open, relaxed, and in a state of euphoria where relationship triggers or challenges just don’t exist!
Here are some things to try:
- Create a list of intimate questions you’d like to ask your partner such as: ” When was the first time you fell in love?” or ” What makes you feel sad” for starts.
- Consume weed the way you like either by smoking together, or taking some yummy edibles.
- Set a timer for 2 hours after you’ve consumed, (especially for edibles, as they take longer to kick in) and ask each other the questions on your list! Write down the answers, and keep it in a journal so you both can see it daily as reminders of your closeness and intimacy.
Doing the above activities may really help you in learning more about each other and how cannabis may affect relationships.
What If Your Partner Feels You Consume TOO much?
Is there really such a thing? Well.. sadly, it’s a possibility. But again, this is subjective and exclusive to two people in a relationship or marriage.
If one of you consumes more weed than the other, it may be a good idea to have a little sit-down and be open and honest with each other and try to find a balance that works so everyone feels happy and safe.
Transparency is key in a relationship at any level.
Another tip if you’re just starting out, is to let the other person know what your general smoking or consuming habits are, or share tasty edible recipes or CBD knowledge in case your partner has had bad experiences in the past.
For some, and I’ve experienced this before, marijuana is a hard no. But to others, it’s an acceptable daily occurrence.
The question to ask yourself is: What’s my happy balance when it comes to weed, and does my partner share the same or similar sentiments?

Bubble-Bath For Two?
If you have a bathtub big enough for two, then why not hop into a hot one together, and spend time talking about a particular topic that elicits feelings of joy or happiness?
Why not ask your partner: ” What are the three things that bring you the most joy”? Or: ” What are three things that I do for you that make you feel loved?”
Asking these kinds of questions in a relaxed and happy environment leaves stress and anger at the door, and invites intimacy inside the tub.
Taking a Romantic Walk Together
